A new control scheme in a multi-battery management system for expanding microgrids

This work introduces a new management system for multi-battery energy storage systems in microgrids. It is specifically targeted for expanding microgrids which need bigger energy storage systems as well as applications where multiple batteries with different characteristics are being operated together. The proposed control strategy aims to maximize overall life of battery energy storage systems and consequently decreases their operating cost by considering different parameters such as rate and depth of discharges and the capital cost of individual batteries. The management system decides how to charge and discharge different batteries in real-time. Simulation results are provided to show the effectiveness of the proposed management system in regulating the operation of multiple batteries in a microgrid.
